In March 2023 I had the privilege of walking into the colourful, upside down, world of Jodie O'Donoghue @jodiesmishmash, Artist from Kinsale.
I was so excited when I got an email from Jodie asking me to take some headshots for her. My imagination immediately started racing to the possibilities of capturing an artist at work amid messy palates and crayon boxes.
It's seldom however, reality lives up to my expectations, but on this occasion fact was better than fiction.
Jodie obviously lives and breaths her art, (it was literally all over her face 🥰). The joy as she twirled the paintbrush over the canvas was as apparent her nerves when she was posing away from the easel, her safe space as she called it.
I asked her about her Artwork
"It's been part of my life as long as I can remember, my mother Kay is very artistic so I began colouring as soon as I could hold a pencil'.
Jodie's talent is overwhelming and my photos barely do it justice, her paintings are made up of layer upon layer of beautiful colours.
Like the depth of clouds & rainbows in our Irish April skies.
They take weeks to complete as she needs to let each layer dry completely before starting on the next and her tiny living space was wedged with half finished canvases, overflowing jam jars full of paint brushes, and splatters of paint & palate knives decorating every surface.
We had a perfect afternoon.
Filled with shared recipes, laughs & endless cuppas stirred with mirthful abandon using the cleaner end of paintbrushes. I certainly intend on installing one of Jodie's pieces in my soon to be finished studio.
